
Towela Mkanda brings a wealth of expertise in community development, policy advocacy, and wellness to her role as Executive and Policy Development Coordinator for the Coalition of Manitoba Cultural Communities for Families (CMCCF). Born in Malawi and raised in Canada, Towela’s global perspective and academic background in Global Political Economy from the University of Manitoba inform her innovative approach to systemic change. Her work focuses on amplifying marginalized voices and fostering inclusive policies to support Manitoba’s diverse families. With a proven track record of securing funding, leading community initiatives, and bridging cultural and institutional gaps, she embodies transformative leadership in action.
As the founder and CEO of Warm Heart of Africa, Towela has redefined accessibility in wellness through sliding scale payment models and inclusive health programs. She is a Yoga Alliance-certified instructor with over 10,000 hours of teaching experience and a holistic philosophy that blends physical movement, mental well-being, and social justice. Towela serves as Secretary on the board for the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba and is a board member, as the public relations officer and Secretary for African Communities of Manitoba Incorporated (ACOMI). She is also a member of the Council of Women in Winnipeg, where she advocates for policies impacting women and children at both local and federal levels. Through her unwavering commitment to equity, accessible wellness, and systemic change, Towela continues to drive lasting positive impact across Canada and beyond.
