The first gathering for the Positive Peace hub in Portage la Prairie was held earlier this year, with more than a dozen community members coming to the table. On January 8th, 2026, at the Herman Prior Activity Centre, people from all walks of life came together to talk about how our respective cultural communities can stand together in building positive peace. Feedback from those participating was very positive with people indicating that they felt that the session met their expectations and increased their knowledge about peace building in Manitoba. Participants also strongly agreed that cultural communities in Manitoba should stand together to build positive peace. Among the many comments that participants shared was the following: “peace is non-negotiable and it is the very strength for building a better community.”
The next meeting is set for mid-February, with many of the participants from the first gathering set to return, alongside new faces who are looking forward to the positive conversation.
