The second Peace Gathering in Portage la Prairie was another great get-together with community members bringing some positive conversation to the table.
At a time where our community was hit with some real negativity, in the form of hate speech posters being hung around the city, we were able to have meaningful talks about how to help people understand what the underprivileged, underserved, and misunderstood have to deal with on a daily basis. We talked about how some people in our area do not get to celebrate their own culture and how we want to help them do so, without it being a detriment to other cultures who are able to do that.
A major theme at our Peace Gathering was based around raising the tide for all boats – helping those who have good intentions and hearing those who want to have conversations in good faith.
We are excited in Portage la Prairie to invite more people to our Hub to chat about what’s important to them. Peace means a lot of different things to a lot of people, but when we hear the variety of definitions for each person, one thing is true: we want more of it!
